Shipping software provider CargoSmart has expanded its partnership with Ningbo E-port, a government integrated logistics information platform.
Under the extended cooperation, shippers and forwarders using the Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan can submit the verified gross mass of their containers through Ningbo E-port’s platform at no additional charge. According to CargoSmart, it will then transmit the VGM information to ocean carriers.
“We are pleased that our solutions will be helping thousands of Ningbo exporters comply with the new SOLAS requirements,” said Lionel Louie, chief commercial officer of CargoSmart. “Through our cooperative effort, Ningbo E-port is a leader in providing shipment and customs level visibility to improve the shipment management process.”
Users of Ningbo E-port will also gain access to CargoSmart’s online dashboard, which provides information such as customs clearance status and VGM submission deadlines and status for 30 ocean carriers.
“Enhancing our platform through integration with CargoSmart’s system lets our customers meet the new SOLAS requirements,” said Xu Wei, deputy general manager of Ningbo E-port. “CargoSmart’s solutions enable our customers to comply with minimal changes to their current shipping documentation submission process and gain additional shipment visibility online to keep their cargo moving.”
Shippers already make booking requests, submit shipping instructions and track their cargo using Ningbo E-port’s portal, which is powered by CargoSmart’s EDI service.
The VGM amendment to the Safety of Life at Sea convention, which states that the verified gross mass for a container must be given before it can be loaded onto a vessel, came into effect on July 1, 2016.
