"I am delighted that we can report such strong growth in both passenger numbers and destinations in Munich. This confirms that there is high demand for air travel, and underlines the Munich hub's importance to the economy and population of Bavaria and far beyond," said Jost Lammers, CEO of Munich Airport.

For the period, the airport said passenger traffic at 41.6 million passengers represents an increase of four and a half million compared to 2023 — making the airport the fastest-growing airport in Germany in 2024.

"This positive development was primarily due to the dynamic growth in European and intercontinental departures," the airport said.

Flights to destinations in Europe and the Mediterranean countries saw a 12% increase. Long-haul flights posted even stronger growth, increasing by 17% which also means increased cargo capacity on the bellyhold.

Munich Airport covers 224 destinations in 66 countries, and no fewer than 96 airlines regularly fly to the airport, including five cargo-only airlines.
