
China's railway network transported 622 million tonnes of cargo in the first two months of the year, an increase of 2% year on year.
Citing data from China State Railway Group Co., Ltd (China Railway), the country's railway operator, Xinhua, reported that China's railway industry has been working to optimize transportation services and improve the efficiency of delivering daily necessities, which has supported economic activity and ensured people a warm winter.
During this period, railways also handled 301 million tonnes of coal, helping thermal power plants meet peak demand.
Meanwhile, in a separate report, the state media reported that China's express delivery sector posted an 11.8% growth rate in the first two months of 2025.
The express delivery development index was 368.6 during the period as China's courier sector experienced rapid expansion in the first two months of the year, with significant growth in delivery volume and capability-building.
China's express delivery volume remained high throughout the first two months as the sector entered one of its busiest periods during the Spring Festival holiday.
From January 28 to February 4, the business volume of express delivery enterprises reached 1.15 billion parcels, a 31% year-on-year increase.
The bureau projects that in the first two months, the volume of courier services and business revenue will surge by 24.6% and 16.6%, respectively, compared to the same period last year.
The sub-index for development strength also saw improvement during the period, as relevant companies concentrated on enhancing logistics infrastructure.
The index is compiled using data from major logistics firms that operate delivery services. It reflects the overall business activities and trends in the country's courier sector.
