French shipping giant CMA CGM has partnered with French tech company Mistral AI, committing €100 million (US$110 million) over the next five years to develop tailored AI solutions for its shipping, logistics, and media operations.
The deal — which aims to enhance CMA CGM’s shipping and logistics operations by implementing AI-driven solutions like automated claims processing, intelligent e-commerce tools, and advanced document management systems — will include deploying a dedicated team of specialists at CMA CGM's headquarters in Marseille and at Grand Central, the headquarters of CMA Media.
The collaboration aims to enhance CMA CGM's shipping and logistics operations by implementing AI-driven solutions like automated claims processing, intelligent e-commerce tools, and advanced document management systems.
"This partnership with Mistral AI marks a decisive step in the transformation of CMA CGM through artificial intelligence. Together, we will develop tailored solutions to reinvent our businesses, from maritime transport to logistics and media, with tangible benefits for our customers and our employees," said Rodolphe Saadé, chairman and CEO of CMA CGM.
"With Mistral AI, we are choosing a French technology leader that combines excellence, digital sovereignty, and a strong sense of responsibility to build an artificial intelligence that serves both our performance and our values," he added.
CMA CGM and Mistral AI said they are committed to accelerating the adoption of generative AI (GenAI) across the group.
CMA CGM added: "Building on the rise of the first large language models (LLMs), the emergence of more autonomous agents paves the way for new forms of automation and more natural, context-aware interactions. This breakthrough technology is set to fundamentally reshape how teams operate—automating repetitive tasks, boosting productivity, and freeing up time for higher-value, strategic work."
The partnership is part of CMA CGM's broader €500 million commitment to artificial intelligence, which includes collaborations with Google and Perplexity and investments in companies like PoolSide and Dataiku. The group also co-founded Kyutai, a nonprofit AI research lab, in 2023 to further its focus on technological innovation.
