LUFTHANSA CARGO EXPANDS TEMPERATURE-CONTROLLED LOGISTICS WITH NEW FEATURES
May 22, 2025

Lufthansa Cargo has unveiled a series of enhancements to its temperature-sensitive freight services, strengthening transparency, control, and reliability for pharmaceutical and high-tech shipments.

The company introduced four key innovations, including round-the-clock monitoring, improved passive temperature protection, real-time tracking, and expedited service options.

Lufthansa Cargo noted that the new Pharma Control Tower, launched in April, provides 24/7 oversight of shipments at Lufthansa Cargo's hubs in Frankfurt, Munich, and Brussels, allowing customers to receive updates and faster responses during transit.

"Customers now have a central point of contact for inquiries regarding shipments from our 30 CEIV-certified stations worldwide," Lufthansa Cargo said in a statement.

In response to rising concerns over temperature fluctuations, Lufthansa Cargo also introduced Thermo Covers for passive shipments, offering additional protection during loading and handling, mitigating external heat exposure.

Initially available from May to September on routes between Frankfurt and Atlanta, Cairo, Chicago, and Toronto, the company aims to expand their use to more destinations.

For real-time monitoring, Lufthansa Cargo launched smartULD, integrating digital sensors into Active Temp Control containers. "These sensors continuously track temperature data, enabling customers to access a complete temperature profile from delivery to pickup via our website," Lufthansa Cargo said.

Additionally, customers transporting sensitive goods can now book Passive Temp Support with td.Zoom, which provides priority access to capacity and faster transit times for pharmaceutical, diagnostic, and biotech shipments.

Lufthansa Cargo noted that it continues to refine its temperature-sensitive logistics, with upcoming plans to improve customer access to real-time temperature data at select stations and expand its temperature-controlled truck network.

"These measures reflect our commitment to quality and stability in temperature-sensitive air freight," the company said.
