FRANKFURT AIRPORT CARGO VOLUME BOUNCES BACK IN MAY
June 20, 2025

Frankfurt Airport handled more cargo in May, with airfreight and airmail volumes increasing 4.4% year-on-year to 178,977 metric tons in the reporting month.

The amount of cargo volumes handled at the airport in May was higher than the 169,563 metric tons recorded a month prior in April 2025, Fraport — which operates Europe's busiest cargo hub — reported.

Nonetheless, May's cargo volume was less than the 184,679 metric tons recorded in March. It is, however, higher than the 152,069 metric tonnes recorded in February and the 148,321 metric tonnes recorded by the airport in January.

Meanwhile, May's cargo volume declined 3.6% compared to the same month in pre-COVID-2019, reflecting a lingering gap in recovery.

For May, aircraft movements climbed by 5.7% to 42,255 takeoffs and landings, while accumulated maximum takeoff weights (or MTOWs) rose by 4.4%, reaching around 2.6 million metric tons in May.
