MSC VESSEL DAMAGED IN SINGAPORE STRAIT
August 5, 2016

The 14,000 TEU MSC Alexandra has been involved in a collision with a crude carrier in the Singapore Strait.

According to MSC, a number of containers were displaced from both vessels. Divers and assessors have been deployed to salvage the containers.

“While we are always saddened to learn of an incident of this nature at sea, we are on this occasion extremely relieved to hear that there has been no loss of life, or pollution caused – despite the significant damage to the hull of MSC Alexandra,” said Yock Juee Tan, managing director of MSC Asia. “We are now continuing to work closely with the authorities and salvage teams to ensure containers are safely discharged and that we can resume MSC Alexandra’s duties as soon as possible.”

MSC Alexandra was operating the Jade Service on the way to Asia.

Both vessels are now safely anchored in Singapore, according to MSC.
