Maersk Line will offer a new service between Asia and the West Coast of the US from September 15.

Citing “changing market conditions” on the trans-Pacific trade lane, Maersk said that the new TP1 service will complement its existing product portfolio.

“We are responding to increased demand in the trans-Pacific,” said Klaus Rud Sejling, head of the East-West network at Maersk Line. “With supply chains disrupted, many customers are approaching us for transport solutions for their cargo. The TP1 service is a stable, long-term solution to meet our customers’ needs.”

The TP1 service will be operated with six 4,000 TEU vessels, with a port rotation of: Yantian – Shanghai – Busan – Los Angeles/Long Beach.

Sejling was almost certainly referring to the fallout from Korean shipping line Hanjin’s decision to file for receivership in South Korea, which has caused vessels to be stranded across the world. Hanjin has also applied for bankruptcy protection in the US.
