Cargo volumes at Miami International Airport (MIA) climbed 13.6% in 2025 to nearly 3.5 million tons, extending its run as the busiest U.S. gateway for international freight.
The increase pushed MIA well past its 2024 total, when the airport handled just over 3 million tons, underscoring the continued strength of cross‑border e‑commerce and Latin America–U.S. trade flows.
The performance marks MIA's sixth consecutive year of record cargo throughput, reinforcing its position as the air cargo hub of the Americas and one of the fastest‑growing major freight airports globally.
"For the sixth consecutive year, MIA has set a new cargo record – powering trade, jobs, and opportunity across Miami-Dade County," said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. "None of this would be possible without the dedication of the airport team and our partners, whose work drives MIA's continued growth and global impact."
MIA, the U.S.' busiest gateway for international freight, is set to undergo US$9 billion in capital improvements and maintenance upgrades. It operates the largest U.S. network of flights to Latin America and the Caribbean.
