DP World's terminal at the Port of San Antonio has completed Chile's largest vehicle discharge on record, unloading 6,338 units from a single vessel, the company said.
The operation, carried out from the M/V Morning Lily, surpassed the previous national record of 6,185 vehicles set at the same terminal in 2021.
The discharge was supported by the terminal's roll‑on/roll‑off infrastructure, yard layout and coordinated gate operations designed to move high‑volume automotive cargo.
The Morning Lily, operated by Eukor and represented locally by Taylor, arrived from Shanghai carrying vehicles from manufacturers including Suzuki, Kia, Changan, Great Wall, Mazda, Ford, Volvo, SAIC Motor and Tesla.
Curtis Doiron, CEO of DP World in Chile, said the operation highlighted the terminal's ability to handle growing volumes. "This operation reflects the strength of our automotive capabilities in Chile – from vessel planning and Ro‑Ro execution to yard management and onward delivery. San Antonio is a critical hub in global automotive trade lanes, and our teams are purpose-built to support growing volumes, new vehicle technologies, and increasingly complex supply chain demands."
"Our focus is on delivering integrated automotive logistics solutions that support today's volumes while preparing for the needs of tomorrow's automotive market," he added.
San Antonio is Chile's main entry point for vehicle imports, handling more than 95% of the country’s inbound automotive volumes.
Throughput has risen steadily in recent years, with DP World reporting 227,601 vehicles handled in 2023 and 235,822 in 2024. The company expects volumes to reach nearly 248,000 units in 2025.
The terminal has also managed rising shipments of electric vehicles and electric buses, including Tesla imports and large consignments of e‑buses for public transport fleets.
DP World said it is adapting its operations to meet the handling and safety requirements associated with new‑energy vehicles.
