Iran Air has signed a firm order with Airbus for 100 aircraft.

According to Airbus, the order consists of 46 A320 family aircraft, 38 A330 family aircraft and 16 A350s.

Deliveries are expected to begin in 2017. An A321 in Iran Air’s livery has already been seen undergoing tests at the Airbus plant in Hamburg.

“This is a landmark agreement not only because it paves the way for Iran Air’s fleet renewal,” said Fabrice Bregier, president and CEO of Airbus. “Our overall accord includes pilot training, airport operations and air traffic management so this agreement is also a significant first step in the overall modernisation of Iran’s commercial aviation sector.”

The order is compliant with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and is subject to export licenses issued by the US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control in September and November 2016, required for products of which US technology constitutes 10% or more of the total value.

The Iranian flag carrier had previously signed a commitment for 118 Airbus planes, consisting of 21 A320ceos, 24 A320neos, 27 A330ceos, 18 A330-900s, 16 A350-1000s and 12 A380s.

Iran Air recently also signed an agreement with Boeing for 80 aircraft.
