Eurogate Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven will handle calls by Hamburg Süd, Hyundai Merchant Marine and the Ocean Alliance, consisting of CMA CGM, COSCO Shipping, Evergreen and OOCL, starting from April 2017.
The changes are as a result of the reorganization of the global shipping alliances.
“This is a significant success that we have worked long and hard to achieve,” said Michael Blach, chairman of the Eurogate Group management board. “The fact that two of the three major shipping alliances will visit Germany’s only deepwater port from spring 2017 will give Wilhelmshaven a new growth spurt – also with respect to the portfolio of additional transport and logistics services.”
According to Eurogate, the Ocean Alliance will initially call at Wilhelmshaven once a week with its 18,000+ TEU vessels operating its Asia-North Europe 1 service, with a port rotation of: Shanghai – Ningbo – Xiamen – Yantian (Shenzhen) – Singapore – Felixstowe – Rotterdam – Gdansk – Wilhelmshaven – Felixstowe – Singapore – Yantian (Shenzhen) – Shanghai.
Hamburg Süd and Hyundai Merchant Marine recently signed cooperation agreements with the 2M alliance, which consists of Maersk Line and Mediterranean Shipping Company and which has been calling at Wilhelmshaven since 2015.
Wilhelmshaven offers a draught of up to 16.5m and can handle the world’s largest container ships, according to Eurogate.
