Hong Kong Air Cargo Industry Services Limited and Chu Kong Shipping Enterprises (Group) Company Limited have entered into a strategic partnership covering the development of joint logistics activity throughout the western part of the Pearl River Delta.
According to Hacis, the first project will be the opening of a new inland cargo depot in the Zhuhai Free Trade Zone in collaboration with CKS subsidiary Civet (Zhu Hai) Logistics Co., Ltd., which operates its own port facility in the zone.
The western PRD is home to many electronics manufacturers and technology companies, many of which are currently heavy users of ocean freight. Hacis and CKS have identified the potential to switch much of this traffic to air freight once the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge opens, cutting trucking times between the western PRD and Hong Kong International Airport by around two thirds.
“The partnership with Hacis will further promote multimodal logistics in the western PRD, and assist in the development of the Greater Bay Area, in line with central government policy,” said Roger Cheng [right in photo], director and vice general manager of Chu Kong Shipping Enterprises (Group) Company Limited. “We are also exploring mutual cooperation in other ports such as Doumen.”
Hacis’ newest depot will enable the company to further develop its SuperLink China Direct road feeder network and establish a stronger local presence in the Zhuhai area. The depot will cover the Macao and Zhuhai conurbations.
“Hacis has a long-term plan to expand its SLCD services to the western PRD, further enhancing HKIA as a regional air cargo hub and transhipment centre,” said Vivien Lau [left in photo], managing director of Hacis. “This new depot will enable us to fully support airlines wishing to extend their networks to the cities in the western PRD. Civet’s advantageous location next to the HZMB, and its considerable experience in running port facilities in Zhuhai, makes it an ideal partner to maximize SLCD’s opportunities in the area.”
Hacis is the value-added logistics arm of Hong Kong International Air Cargo Terminals Limited and already operates eight other depots in southern mainland China.
