Turkish Airlines has placed an order for three additional Boeing 777 Freighters.
“We are excited to expand our efficient cargo fleet with the 777 Freighter,” said M. İlker Aycı, chairman of the board and the executive committee at Turkish Airlines. “This aircraft has contributed greatly to Turkish Cargo, Turkish Airlines’ successful sub-brand, becoming the fastest-growing air cargo carrier in the world. The additional aircraft will provide us more flexibility to serve even more destinations as we continue to grow our global freight network.”
For the first nine months of 2018, the carrier’s air freight business grew its tonnage by 25% year-on-year and increased its revenue by 29% year-on-year. Turkish Cargo took delivery of its first two 777Fs in December 2017 and ordered three more in January 2018.
The 777F is based on the 777-200LR and can fly 4,900 nautical miles with a full payload of 102 tonnes.
Turkish also finalized an order for 25 787-9s and five options in March 2018, and has begun receiving new 737 MAX 8 airplanes over the last few months. In total, the airline’s fleet has grown to include more than 160 Boeing aircraft, with nearly 100 on order.
“Turkish Airlines has achieved significant success over the past decade,” said Kevin McAllister, president and chief executive officer of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. “In addition to introducing innovations that have powered the growth of Turkey’s commercial aviation sector and anchored a new state-of-the art airport, the airline is delivering outstanding results and rising in the ranks of elite airlines. We are extremely honoured that Turkish Airlines has placed its trust and confidence in Boeing’s flagship airplanes: the 737 MAX, the 777 and the 787 Dreamliner.”
Turkish Cargo serves more than 300 destinations in 124 countries.
