CMA CGM: CARGO FLOW EASING UP AT MAJOR CHINESE PORTS
March 4, 2020

Cargo flow at major coastal ports in China is beginning to normalize according to shipping major, CMA CGM.

In its advisory on the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) impact, the French container shipping company said business operations have now entered the recovery phase in China.

"Manufacturing activities are gradually picking up, more port workers and truck drivers are returning to their posts, and cargo flow is easing up at the major coastal ports," CMA CGM said.

Covid-19, which originated from Wuhan, in central Hubei province, has caused a major disruption in manufacturing and trade flows as millions were affected by a lockdown in many Chinese cities as the government stepped up to contain the outbreak.

"The CMA CGM Group strives to better support our customers as their business activities recover without compromising the health and well-being of our staff and partners in China," the French shipping major said, adding that starting from March 2nd, alternate teams of employees will be deployed at its offices at different work schedules and employees working from home during designated hours will continue to provide services on remote basis.

"CMA CGM Group remains fully committed to comply with any regulatory requirements and policies aimed at curbing the spread of the COVID-19," it added.

To date, the virus has killed 3,200 people, mostly in mainland China and infected over 92,000 people across 70 countries and territories.
