Virgin Atlantic is looking to increase its cargo-only flights by over 33% in June after a record-breaking month in May by launching new routes and adding frequencies.

The British airline said in a statement that it will commence daily service between London Heathrow and Beijing and also start a twice-weekly cargo operation between New York JFK-Brussels-London marking the airline's first Brussels service.

The airline will also commence three times weekly flight between London and Atlanta from June 9 and a three times weekly Chicago service from June 4, 2020.

Virgin Atlantic Cargo will also increase its Hong Kong frequency to daily and increase Mumbai frequency to three times weekly from June 6.

Meanwhile, it will also resume its weekly service from London to Lagos, Nigeria.

The airline said it will operate 17 cargo charters per week from Shanghai and Beijing in Jun/Jul-2020 in cooperation with the UK Department for Health and National Health.

In May, Virgin Atlantic operated over 90 cargo-only flights per week as it helps customers reopen vital trade lanes connecting the UK with prime freight markets in the US, Hong Kong and China, India, Israel and South Africa.

The airline also operated its cargo-only flights through Dublin for the first time, enabling Ireland’s medical technology, electronics and other industries to achieve same-day connections to New York JFK, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Tel Aviv and Johannesburg.

The services were operated using the airline’s Boeing 787-9 aircraft, which can carry up to 55 tonnes of cargo.
