MSC TO CANCEL GREAT SEA SERVICE
October 19, 2015

Mediterranean Shipping Company is to withdraw its Great Sea service between Asia and the Black Sea from the first week of November.

“The decision to withdraw this service is due to unexpectedly low demand out of Asia,” said Caroline Becquart, senior vice president of MSC. “We have to adapt our capacity to the demand in these difficult times.”

The service is operated by nine 5,500 TEU capacity vessels.

According to MSC, it will be transhipping Asia-Black Sea cargo in Asyaport, in Barbaros, Tekirdağ, Turkey.

“While current demand is not sufficient to meet the costs of running a dedicated service, we are committed to provide solutions for our customers,” said Becquart. “The transhipment service will maintain our customers’ supply chain and our commitment to the area.”

Details of the schedule for the new service will be released later, according to a statement.
