ISRAEL, UAE AGREE TO NORMALISE RELATIONS; WILL SIGN DIRECT AIR SERVICES
August 17, 2020

Israel and the United Arab Emirates are expected to sign bilateral agreements in the coming weeks which include a deal for direct air services following a historic treaty between the two countries to normalise their relations.

The announcement was made by the White House last week with the agreement signed between US President Donald Trump, Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the UAE's Deputy Supreme Commander Mohammed Bin Zayed.

Delegations from Israel and the United Arab Emirates will meet in the "coming weeks" according to the joint statement released, to sign bilateral agreements regarding investment, tourism, security, telecommunications, technology, energy, healthcare, culture, the environment, the establishment of reciprocal embassies,  direct flights and other areas of mutual benefit.

"Opening direct ties between two of the Middle East’s most dynamic societies and advanced economies will transform the region by spurring economic growth, enhancing technological innovation, and forging closer people-to-people relations," the statement read.
