SRI LANKA ENFORCES NEW SHIPPING CUSTOMS PROCEDURE
December 23, 2015
All import or transhipment cargo at the port of Colombo is to be declared 72 hours before the arrival of the vessel, according to a new requirement from Sri Lankan customs.
For transits that are shorter than 3 days in duration, a customs manifest must be submitted immediately after departure from the port preceding Colombo.
The manifest must contain the same information as the bill of lading or sea waybill, and amendments are not allowed after the deadline. Non-compliance is subject to a penalty and/or other sanctions.
Freight remaining on board is exempt from the new requirement.
