The Northwest Seaport Alliance (NWSA) — composed of seaports of Seattle and Tacoma — said it handled a total of 307,592 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), in July, representing a 13.8% increase in volumes year-on-year.

In a statement, it said full imports grew 21.5%, while full exports decreased 13.6%, reflecting trends in other major west coast gateways. 

Year-to-date volumes improved 18.2% to 2,167,766 TEUs, with full imports growing 29.6% and full exports declining 11.5%.

Meanwhile, domestic volumes grew 8.8% versus the same period in 2020. It said Alaska volumes saw a 5.6% increase while Hawaii volumes grew 23.9%. 

The NWSA also said that breakbulk year-to-date cargo volumes grew 36.3% to 218,177 metric tons — a record-breaking month for the NWSA gateway.

Auto volumes were 102,926 units, up 33.2% over YTD July 2020, it added.
