CONTAINER VOLUME AT MAJOR CHINESE PORTS UP 3.8% IN EARLY SEPTEMBER

Container volume at eight major Chinese ports like Port of Shanghai — the world's busiest container port in 2020 — Port of Tianjin, the largest port in Northern China and the main maritime gateway to Beijing, Ningbo-Zhoushan, Xiamen, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen increased 3.8% in early September.

 

Export container volume increased by 5.7%, although domestic volumes dropped by 1.8%.

 

In Ningbo Zhoushan and Guangzhou ports, export container volume growth rate surpassed 10%.

 

Cargo throughput at major coastal Chinese ports declined by 4% year-on-year, while the international trade cargo volume also slid by 6.4% during the period.

 

Crude oil shipments at major coastal ports dropped 21.4% in early September. Metal ore shipments at these main Chinese ports also declined by 2.7%.

 

For the period cargo throughput at the ports of Nanjing, Wuhan, and Chongqing — major Yangtze river gateways — was up 5.6% and 10.9% respectively.

 

Port of Chongqing is the biggest river port in the southwest of China.
