2015 ASIAN CARGO TRAFFIC DOWN AT SCHIPHOL
January 22, 2016

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol saw a 2.8% year-on-year decline in air cargo to and from Asia in 2015, according to statistics released by the airport.

While Asia remained Schiphol’s largest market in terms of air freight, with a market share of 38.05%, North America and Latin America grew the most, at 5.6% and 5.1% respectively.

Schiphol handled a total of 1,621,097 tonnes of cargo in 2015, a 0.7% decrease compared to the record throughput in 2014.

“From a weak beginning in the first half of 2015, Schiphol has seen better traffic levels in the second half, ending with a total tonnage that is surprisingly close to our all-time record set in 2014,” said Jonas van Stekelenburg, cargo director of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. “Considering the continuing weakness of China, our largest market, this is a very encouraging achievement. My team and I now have our strategy in place for 2016 onwards, supported by a strong mandate from our community to continue with our policy of innovation and industry leadership.”
