PSI AIR EYES PHILIPPINES-US CARGO FLIGHTS
September 23, 2022

Philippines' PSI Air is eyeing to operate cargo flights between the Philippines and the United States.

PSI Air — the only all-cargo airline in the Philippines — currently provides a wide range of services from air cargo operation to aircraft maintenance, warehousing, and logistics.

The application document of PSI Air to the US Department of Transportation (DOT) sought to apply for a foreign air carrier permit and exemption from the agency to carry out operations between the Philippines and the US.

"PSI Air ... hereby applies for exemption authority and a foreign air carrier permit authorizing it to conduct scheduled and charter air transportation of persons, property and mail from any point or points behind the Philippines, via any point or points in the Philippines and intermediate points, to any point of points in the United States and beyond," the carrier's application document dated September 7 said.

PSI is seeking to operate daily widebody freighter service between Manila and/or Clark International Airport and Chicago, Illinois. It also wants to operate a freighter service between Manila and/or Clark International and Ontario, California.

"Applicant is requesting the following authority to provide carriage of cargo and mail via scheduled and on-demand service: (a) Philippines – United States of America; (b) United States of America – Asia (Vietnam/Hong Kong/China/Kuala Lumpur/Philippines/Singapore/India/Sri Lanka) – Philippines; and (c) United States of America – Netherlands – Germany – United Arab Emirates - Philippines," the application document further showed.

PSI Air currently has existing relationships with EFL Freight covering Sri Lanka, China and US; and AAI Worldwide Logistics covering Malaysia, China, Thailand and Hong Kong.

The airline added that at the moment, it has no arrangements of cooperative working agreements with any US or foreign carrier that would affect the proposed service.

"[PSI Air] is, however, currently in discussions with U.S. and foreign carriers relating to potential codeshare, interline and wet lease arrangements," it added.

The application said PSI Air, established in 2019, holds an interest in Jett Cargo LLC, which markets dedicated wide-body and narrowbody cargo aircraft capacity contracted from third-party airlines to freight forwarders, logistics providers, and charter brokers.

"[PSI Air] respectfully requests that the Department act promptly on this application and grant the requested scheduled and charter exemption for a period of two (2) years or until the Department issues the applicant the foreign air carrier permit requested herein," PSI Air's application said.

"The requested expedited processing will allow the applicant to begin the proposed services as soon as possible," it added.
