SHANGHAI WILL INCREASE ITS LNG CAPACITY BY 6M TONNES
October 13, 2022

Shanghai is ramping up development of sustainable fuel with the plan to expand LNG projects at Yangshan port area with a construction scale of six milllion tonnes per year.

The LNG project involves the construction of one 150,000 tonnes-class LNG berth which can accommodate LNG vessels having carrying capacity of up to 266,000  m3 of cargo, 10 LNG storage tanks above 220,000  m3 and an70 kilometres gas pipeline.

The project — approved by the Shanghai Development and Reform Commission and Zhejiang Provincial Development and Reform Commission — will optimise LNG supply and storage system in Shanghai and improve the overall LNG energy structure in Yangtze river delta region once completed.

The LNG terminal, pipeline, and four LNG storage tanks are among the phases that are expected to be delivered before 2025, while the remaining projects are expected to start operating by 2030.

The main LNG supply source for Shanghai is the Yangshan LNG receiving station.

Two further 200,000 m3 storage tanks were supplied in 2020 after the first phase of the project's operation began in 2009.
