Ocean Network Express (ONE) marked its 5th anniversary at its ONE Green office in Singapore.
Jeremy Nixon, ONE chief executive officer, Niam Chiang Meng, chairman of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), and Hiroshi Ishikawa, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Singapore, performed the Kagami-Biraki in happi coats — traditional Japanese coats worn during festivals and ceremonies and as part of the celebration, guests were also then invited to a sake toast.
Kagami-Biraki is a traditional Japanese ceremony where a sake barrel is opened with a wooden mallet. It is believed that breaking the sake barrel will bring good luck and prosperity.
At the "Kagami Biraki" Ceremony - (L-R) Hiroshi Ishikawa, Ambassador of Japan to Singapore, Jeremy Nixon, ONE CEO, and Niam Chiang Meng, chairman of the MPA.
In his opening speech, Nixon said, "I am honoured to welcome you all to our 5th-anniversary celebration. It has been an incredible journey for ONE over the past five years. We have faced many challenges, but we have also achieved many successes. I am proud of what we have accomplished together."
Niam Chiang Meng congratulated ONE on the milestone and noted the shipping line's contribution to Singapore trade.
"Congratulations to ONE on this significant milestone. ONE has grown steadily over the years and is one of the largest liner operators in Singapore today, contributing in areas of maritime decarbonisation, innovation and digitalisation, and manpower development. We thank ONE for their vote of confidence in Singapore and look forward to our collaboration in the years to come," he said.
Hiroshi Ishikawa also extended his "warmest congratulations" to ONE on its 5th anniversary.
"ONE has played a vital role in the global economy, and I am confident that it will continue to do so in the years to come. Thank you for your continued contributions to Singapore and the world," he said.
ONE was founded in April 2018 through the merger of three Japanese container shipping companies: MOL, NYK, and K-Line. The company has a fleet of over 200 vessels, plying about 170 routes across more than 120 countries.
As part of its efforts to become net zero by 2050, it is investing in new technologies and solutions to enhance its operational efficiency and sustainability. ONE is also expanding its network of services to better serve valued customers and reach out to new markets.
ONE noted that there were more than 150 guests at the anniversary celebration, including government officials, valued partners, and customers.
