Air freight prices edged up last week, according to the latest data from TAC Index.

The price reporting agency (PRA) for air freight said the overall Baltic Air Freight Index (BAI00) edged up +1.0% in the week to June 19, ending a long series of weekly declines to trim the year-to-year fall back to -47.0%.

"The rate of decline in recent weeks has been slowed partly by strong e-commerce business via southern China," the TAC Index report said.

It noted, however, that the Hong Kong (BAI30) index fell -1.7% week-on-week (WoW) to take its year-on-year (YoY) fall to -41.9%.

By contrast, the Shanghai (BAI80) outbound index was up +1.0% WoW, trimming its YoY fall to -51.8%. 

Out of other regions, rate changes were mixed — with Frankfurt (BAI20) flat WoW taking its YoY change to -52.9%, but Chicago (BAI50) down -4.3% to -46.8% YoY.

TAC Index noted that among other significant routes, Vietnam to the US was higher WoW, as was Miami to South America.
