Airbus has opened its Asia Training Centre in Singapore.
The 9,250m2 centre is a joint venture between Airbus, which has a 55% stake, and Singapore Airlines, which holds the other 45%. It is the fourth Airbus flight crew training centre in the world, after Toulouse, Miami and Beijing.
“The new centre combines the expertise of our two companies to offer the highest standards of training for the growing flight crew population in the Asia-Pacific region,” said Fabrice Brégier, president and chief executive officer of Airbus. “Our investment in this joint venture is another example of our commitment at Airbus to bring our support services closer to our customers around the world, and especially in the key growth markets.”
According to Airbus, the centre offers type rating and recurrent training course for all Airbus types, and will include eight simulators: two A320s, two A330s, three A350s and one A380. It will also offer six fixed cockpit training devices and classroom facilities.
“The new facility provides exceptional training on state-of-the-art equipment, ensuring that AATC is a true centre of excellence in the Asia-Pacific region,” said Goh Choon Phong, CEO of Singapore Airlines. “With hundreds more new Airbus aircraft on firm order by the region’s airlines, we are confident that AATC will go from strength to strength.”
AATC will gradually be shifting its operations to the new centre from the temporary facilities at the SIA Training Centre, where AATA began operations in April 2015, according to Airbus.
