Thailand’s Civil Aviation Authority has appointed the UK Civil Aviation Authority’s advisory arm CAA International to help improve Thailand’s aviation safety oversight and the country’s compliance with the International Civil Aviation Organization.

According to CAAi, around 10 experts from the UK CAA will work with the CAAT to recertify air operator certificates registered in Thailand and carry out on-the-job training in flight operations to CAAT inspectors so that core inspectorate competencies are raised to become more in line with international standards. CAAi will also help Thailand prepare for its upcoming ICAO Coordinated Validation Mission safety audit.

ICAO indicated that Thailand’s aviation safety oversight presented a Significant Safety Concern in June 2015.

“With almost 600,000 passengers flying to Thailand from the UK alone in 2014, we are fully committed to assisting CAAT raise its level of effective implementation and meet the international safety standards set by ICAO,” said Maria Rueda, managing director of CAAi, at a ceremony at the headquarters of the Thai Ministry of Transport. “Working together, we are confident we can help lift the SSC and strengthen Thailand’s aviation safety oversight.”

The project is scheduled to begin in May 2016, according to CAAi.
