FRANKFURT AIRPORT RECORDS CARGO GROWTH IN AUGUST
September 13, 2023

Frankfurt Airport (FRA) saw another month of cargo volume increase in August as recovery continues in Europe's busiest air cargo hub.

The airport reported that air cargo throughput —  comprising airfreight and airmail — in Frankfurt reached 156,827 metric tons, up 1.2% compared to the same period in 2022.

"Cargo volumes in Frankfurt rose again slightly in August 2023," FRA said.

Month-on-month, however, August's air freight volumes were slightly lower than the 164,503 metric tons in July and the 160,047 metric tonnes recorded in June.

Frankfurt Airport noted that the number of aircraft movements increased by 10.9% to 39,910 takeoffs and landings in the reporting month, while accumulated maximum takeoff weights (MTOWs) grew by 9.1% to around 2.5 million metric tons (in both cases, compared to August 2022).

In June, FRA,  which operates Frankfurt Airport, said the slowdown in cargo traffic last month reflected the overall economic slowdown.
