Cargo throughput at the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) — the world's busiest cargo hub — continued its recovery for the third consecutive month in November.

Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) released the air traffic figures in Hong Kong for last month and said cargo throughput maintained strong growth momentum as HKIA recorded an overall increase of 17.8% to 417,000 tonnes with a 31.8% increase in exports when compared to the same month last year.

"Cargo traffic to and from key trading regions in North America, the Middle East and Europe saw the most significant growth during the month," AAHK said in its announcement.

The latest figure is also higher than the 393,000 tonnes recorded in October and the 375,000 tonnes in September.

Cargo throughput at HKIA reached 367,000 tonnes in August this year.

October's performance was up 12% year-on-year, while September's was up 10% compared to the same period in 2022. Meanwhile, August' was also higher by 1.7% compared to the same period in 2022.

AAHK said over the first 11 months of the year, cargo volume at HKIA increased slightly by 1.7% to 3.9 million tonnes year on year.

On a 12-month rolling basis, cargo throughput saw a decrease of 1.4% to 4.3 million tonnes.
