HPH READY FOR SOLAS VGM REQUIREMENTS
May 13, 2016

Hutchison Port Holdings Limited’s worldwide network of ports will be ready for full compliance with the International Maritime’s Organization’s verified-gross-mass amendments to the Safety of Life at Sea convention.

Under the amendments, which come into effect on July 1, 2016, all shippers must provide the verified gross mass of a container to the carrier and the terminal before it can be loaded onto a ship.

“As the world’s leading port operator that handles 12% of global container trade, we fully support this regulation as safety is our priority in our operations,” said Eric Ip, manging director of the HPH group. “We are committed to helping our customers comply with this regulation and we are collaborating with the shipping community and local authorities to ensure a seamless transition and full compliance before the enforcement date.”

To minimize disruptions after the amendments enter into force, HPH has made system enhancements across different business units and worked on the internal alignment of processes and guidelines, according to the company.
