The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey notched its second-busiest February of all time, only outpaced by the pandemic-driven surge in 2022.
The port said February 2024 marked the second-busiest February of all time at the Port of New York and New Jersey.
For the month, the total volume of 632,455 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) jumped 11% from February 2023 and increased 8% from pre-pandemic February 2019.
"The robust cargo activity in February 2024 came amid resilient consumer spending and restocking efforts by major retailers. February marked the third consecutive month of year-over-year growth for the port," the Port Authority said.
In February 2024, the Port of New York and New Jersey was the second busiest in the nation for loaded imports and exports.
Throughout the month, the port brought in 433,877 loaded TEUs.
Year-to-date, the port is outpacing volumes from both the prior year and pre-pandemic 2019.
The port said it handled 1.3 million TEUs through the first two months of 2024, a 7% increase from the same point in 2023 and an 8% jump from pre-pandemic 2019.
