HACTL TURNS 40
June 2, 2016

Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Ltd has celebrated its 40th anniversary of operations.

“The 40-year history of Hactl is one of constant innovation, ground-breaking initiatives, major investment and world records,” said Mark Whitehead, chief executive of Hactl. “The vision of Hactl’s founders, to create a handling agent that would set new standards for the industry, has been fully realised. That vision is still alive today in the continuing dedication and enthusiasm of our staff and management.”

According to Hactl, within six months of opening its first terminal at Kai Tak in 1976, it was already handling 40 airlines and 15 freighters, with 753 tonnes of cargo every day. A second terminal opened in 1991.

When the new Chek Lap Kok Airport opened in 1998, Hactl invested US$1 billion in SuperTerminal 1, which is now the world’s largest handling facility.

“It is an honour to lead this unique and remarkable company, and particularly so at this significant moment in its history,” said Whitehead. “I pay tribute to the hard work and loyalty of every employee past and present, and to the imagination and drive that have kept Hactl ahead in the industry. Without these, Hactl could not have retained the pre-eminent position of respect which it holds today.”
