Glasgow Prestwick Airport has invested GBP2.17 million (US$2.8 million) ) in new cargo equipment, cold storage solutions, and an X-ray machine as part of its ongoing development of freight services.
The UK hub, which has no flight restrictions, has taken delivery of its second new high-loader, which supports turnaround times of under two hours for a 90-tonne load.
"We have one of the fastest turnaround times for air cargo in the UK, no slot requirements, and no restrictions," said Nico Le Roux, business development director at Glasgow Prestwick Airport.
"This investment is part of our ongoing commitment to providing world-class freight services with 24/7 operations," he added.
Glasgow's new equipment includes two high loaders with 20-tonne and 35-tonne capacities, respectively, a heavy-duty pushback tractor capable of handling any aircraft type, 12 new dollies, and a new Rapiscan X-ray machine with 7.5mm steel penetration.
The Scottish hub has also invested in new cold storage facilities with a controlled range of -30C to +25C.
"We offer a cost-effective solution delivered by an experienced team, and our road, rail, and ferry connections make us an excellent choice for e-commerce operations seeking unrestricted services," said Le Roux.
