FRANKFURT RECORDS CONTINUED CARGO GROWTH IN MAY
June 13, 2024

Frankfurt Airport (FRA)—Europe's busiest cargo hub—continued to report an air freight volume increase in May, even as global supply chain conditions continued to be challenging.

Fraport, which operates Frankfurt Airport, said Frankfurt's cargo volumes — comprising airfreight and airmail — recorded strong year-on-year growth of 9.9% to 171,353 metric tons in May.

This is, however, slightly lower than the 171,501 metric tons in April 2024 and the 178,898 metric tons that the hub handled in March.

For the period, the number of aircraft movements was up as well.

Fraport said there were 39,959 take-offs and landings at FRA in May, a year-on-year increase of 7.2%.

In the same time period, accumulated maximum takeoff weights (MTOWs) rose by 5.4% to around 2.5 million metric tons.

For the current fiscal year 2024, Fraport expects group EBITDA to be between roughly €1,260 million and €1,360 million. For the Group result, the figure is expected to be between approximately €435 million and €530 million.
