Cathay Cargo recorded another month of double-digit volume growth in July, continuing its strong upward momentum, which it attributed to shippers accelerating freight movements ahead of anticipated tariff changes.
The cargo arm of Hong Kong's flag carrier, Cathay Pacific, carried 11% more cargo in July 2025 than in July 2024, reaching 140,156 tonnes.
Month-over-month, July volume was also higher than the 132,462 tonnes transported in June 2025. Last month's performance was also higher than the 135,807 tonnes of cargo handled in May.
For July, Available Freight Tonne Kilometres (AFTKs) increased by 11%.
In the first seven months of 2025, the total tonnage also increased by 11% compared with the same period for 2024 with Cathay Cargo transporting 940,909 tonnes of freight.

"In July, we saw increased cargo tonnage compared with the same month last year, reflecting the movement of air cargo ahead of the tariff timelines," said Cathay Chief Customer and Commercial Officer Lavinia Lau.
"Meanwhile, our capacity grew by 6% compared with the previous month, with strong demand from Southeast Asia to Hong Kong in particular, driven by machinery and perishables."
Meanwhile, Lau noted that demand for Cathay Fresh solution was buoyed by the seasonal movement of cherries from the United States.
"Looking ahead, the external environment remains uncertain and we will continue to stay vigilant and agile while serving demand where it arises," the Cathay chief customer and commercial officer added.
