Worldwide Flight Services has signed new cargo contracts with Lufthansa, SAS and Swiss International Air Lines at Boston-Logan International Airport.

The Massachusetts Port Authority awarded the lease of the new Cargo Building 62 at the airport to WFS starting from August 2017. WFS has now added an additional 22,500 square feet of warehousing space and more than 26,000 square feet of truck docking, equipment storage and office space.

Cargo Building 62 s equipped with dual-view X-ray screening equipment, CCTV monitoring systems, new forklift trucks and weighing systems as well as racking and a cooler facility for perishables. More than 50 additional personnel have also been recruited to support WFS’ growing operation at the airport, which is being led by Rinzing Wangyal, VP of business planning, and Tim Coggswell, area manager of the Northeast.

Lufthansa currently operates an Airbus A330-300 and a Boeing 747-8 every day between Frankfurt and Boston, as well as a daily A350-900 between Munich and Boston. The A330 Frankfurt flight will not be operated during the winter season.

Swiss International Air Lines operates a daily A330-300 and a six-times-weekly A340-300 between Zurich and Boston.

Both Lufthansa and SWISS have signed five-year contracts with WFS in Boston, beginning in October 2017 and September 2017 respectively.

SAS has awarded WFS a three-year cargo-handling agreement for its four-times-weekly A330-300 flight between Copenhagen and Boston. a week connecting Boston and Copenhagen. The contract commences in September 2017.

WFS expects to handle an additional 55,000 tonnes of cargo for the three airlines. The company established its presence in Boston 12 years ago and already handles cargo for American Airlines, British Airways and Iberia at a 30,000-suqre-foot facility.
