Emirates has reached the 10-year milestone for its operations in Brazil.
The airline launched its non-stop flight between Dubai and Sao Paulo in October 2007 and another between Dubai and Rio de Janeiro in 2012.
According to Brazil's Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services, Brazilian exports to the UAE grew from US$1.2 billion to US$2.24 billion between 2007 and 2016, representing a growth of 87%. Overall trade also grew 72% from US$1.5 billion to US$2.6 billion during the same period. The UAE is the second-biggest importer of Brazilian products among Arab countries, with US$2.24 billion worth of imports in 2016, mostly consisting of food produce and products.
Since 2007, Emirates SkyCargo has carried more than 25,000 tonnes of imports and more than 11,000 tonnes of exports between Dubai and Brazil. Major cargo imports include automobile and aircraft spare parts, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, while major exports include general cargo, hatching eggs, spare parts, shoes, fruits and vegetables. Top export destinations include the UAE, India and Saudi Arabia, while main import origins are Hong Kong, India and mainland China.
SkyCargo has also operated multiple freighter charters to Brazil over the last few years to transport cargo such as horses for sporting events and outsized equipment including helicopters.
Emirates currently serves Sao Paulo with a daily Airbus A380 and Rio de Janeiro with a daily Boeing 777-300ER which continues on to Buenos Aires.
