The freighter service will be operated in partnership with Colombian carrier Avianca, which will commercialize the capacity on the return leg from Bogota to Maastricht. The two carriers plan to develop a deeper partnership under which Emirates will help Avianca transport cargo from Latin America across its network in the Middle East, Africa and Asia, while Avianca will help Emirates expand its reach in South America.

“We welcome Bogota to our global network of over 40 scheduled weekly freighter destinations,” said Hiran Perera, senior vice president of cargo planning and freighters at Emirates. “South America is one of our main focus regions and we believe that there is a lot of potential for further growth in demand for air cargo capacity in this region. We are also delighted to be working with Avianca for this freighter service and we look forward to strengthening our partnership to facilitate more trade between customers in South America and the rest of the world.”

Bogota will be SkyCargo’s third freighter destination in South America, joining Quito and Viracopos. Together with belly space on passenger flights to Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Santiago and Sao Paulo, Emirates will offer a cargo capacity of almost 500 tonnes per week to South America.
