Lufthansa Cargo will introduce an additional Boeing 777 Freighter to AeroLogic’s fleet later this year.
According to Lufthansa, the aircraft will be leased from Boeing and is expected to arrive at AeroLogic’s Leipzig hub in the fall. It will be the second new 777F to join the AeroLogic fleet in 2019 and the 12th AeroLogic 777F overall.
Lufthansa Cargo announced in August 2018 that it would be leasing a new 777F from Boeing for AeroLogic, arriving in early February 2019.
The two new AeroLogic aircraft will be assigned the registrations D-AALK and D-AALL. Their capacity will be marketed by Lufthansa Cargo, which itself is due to receive two new 777Fs in February and March this year.
“We are delighted to be in a position to put four brand-new freighters into operation this year,” said Peter Gerber, CEO and chairman of the executive board at Lufthansa Cargo. “This will effectively modernize our own fleet at our Frankfurt Airport base and further boost our efficiency and reliability. At the same time, we are focusing as a shareholder on growing AeroLogic, our 50-50 joint venture with DHL Express at Leipzig Airport.”
DHL Express added two 777Fs to the AeroLogic fleet in 2017 and has since been marketing their capacity exclusively. The capacity of the eight other aircraft is mainly used by DHL Express during the week and by Lufthansa Cargo on weekends.
“We are contributing to the success of both of our partners through our flexibility,” said Wolfgang Raebiger, managing director of finance at AeroLogic. “We are pleased that AeroLogic, offering one of the most modern and efficient freighter fleets in the world, is continuing to grow at Leipzig Airport.”
Lufthansa Cargo placed an order for two new 777Fs in May 2018 and received approval from the group to operate them in July 2018. By the time these are delivered, the carrier will have seven 777Fs in its own fleet.
