KOREAN AIR COMPLETES ICARGO IMPLEMENTATION

Korean Air has completed the implementation of iCargo, a cloud-based cargo management system developed by IBS Software.

According to the carrier, iCargo enables it to provide a consistent service and provides up-to-date information via customized monitoring. It also allows customers to track the status of shipments in real time through e-mail or SMS, depending on their preferences.

“The next-generation cargo system, based on cloud technology, is part of our digital transformation of the future,” said Sam Noh, senior vice president and head of the cargo business division at Korean Air. “Launched in April, the new system will lead change and further enhance the quality of customer service in the fiercely competitive cargo industry.”

The rollout includes the introduction of a new suite of IBS mobility capabilities, including next-gen android-based barcode scanners and apps on mobile devices such as tablets with integrated electronic workflows at Korean Air’s cargo hub at Seoul Incheon Airport.

The rollout will also enable Korean to directly measure and report performance to Cargo iQ, the International Air Transport Association interest group focused on improving air cargo quality

“KE is a dominant player in the global air cargo industry in terms of scale and thought leadership,” said Ashok Rajan, head of cargo and logistics solutions at IBS Software. “We are proud to be part of KE’s modernization process as they prime themselves to push the boundaries to deliver exceptional customer experience. iCargo has indeed elevated itself to being the undisputed market leader and the right IT platform to provide airlines with a competitive edge to lead in a digital world.”

Korean Air and IBS began their collaboration in February 2018, combining the entire scope of Korean Air Cargo’s business functions into a single integrated system, including reservations, sales, terminal operations, revenue accounting, cargo portal and others. In total, 130 domestic and overseas stations have been integrated.

The improvements will continue through to March 2020. Korean Air will also introduce an AI-based cargo revenue management system to improve company profitability.

Korean Air aims to migrate its entire IT system to a cloud-based solution by 2021 to improve the customer experience.
