Panalpina has scored 94 out of 100 in the Carbon Disclosure Project supply chain programme, its best result to date.
The score was given based on full-year data reported from 2014, and is a nine-point improvement over last year’s score, according to Panalpina.
“We are very pleased with our latest CDP score,” said Lindsay Zingg, global head of quality, health, safety and environment at Panalpina. “We’ve responded to CDP climate impact surveys every year since 2009, showing improvement each year. Today, we better understand how our activities impact the environment. Moving forward, we want to continue to steadily decrease this impact.”
Under the CDP programme, 66 companies asked their suppliers to provide details on their environmental impact, management systems and performance metrics.
According to Panalpina, the emissions targets it has set were recognized by the United Nations climate talks in Paris as being in line with the goal by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change to cut global greenhouse-gas emissions by up to 70% by 2050.
The Swiss company also said that it would set science-based emissions targets in the first half of 2016.
“Companies like ours should support the global effort to mitigate climate change,” said Peter Ulber, CEO of Panalpina. “Besides, continuously extending our commitment to sustainability and setting ambitious targets in in Panalpina’s own interest, as it can help drive innovation and secure a long-term competitive advantage.”
