Hactl has introduced an enhanced truck flow management programme at its SuperTerminal 1 to reduce queues, speed up processing times and increase parking capacity.

According to Hactl, manned check booths at vehicle entry points have been replaced with automated lanes that register trucks, their size and purpose of visit. Entry lanes have also been doubled, eliminating queues at peak times.

“The truck flow management programme has transformed vehicle movements at Hactl’s SuperTerminal 1,” said Mark Whitehead, chief executive of Hactl. “We have ensured ample parking space for vehicles visiting Hactl on cargo-related business, speeded up processing times for drivers and their vehicles, made queues a thing of the past, and enhanced security through additional validation of visitors.”

A new fast-track lane will enable vehicles to take advantage of automatic number plate recognition without needing pre-fitted access tags, cutting average entry time by 70% to about five seconds.

Two new self-service kiosks let truckers register their vehicles for shipment collection and check status more quickly. A new, automated system calls registered and parked trucks forwards to an assigned loading bay.

“Hactl’s truck flow management programme has given us a new perspective on SuperTerminal 1,” said Freddie Lam, chairman of the Hong Kong Association of Aircargo Truckers. “The ANPR system and self-service kiosks have speeded up processing times for drivers and their vehicles. Overall, these are very positive changes.”

SuperTerminal 1 receives more than 2,000 trucks a day, according to Hactl.
