According to Air France KLM Martinair Cargo, the new system is built in partnership with Lödige Industries and Vanderlande, and is capable of handling more than 2,000 items per hour.

“E-commerce is a fast-growing branch in the cargo industry,” said Marcel de Nooijer, EVP of KLM Cargo. “This innovative system allows us to keep pace with the rapid increase in post and express consignments. The system is faster and smarter, allowing us to offer better service to our customers.”

The new sorter is similar to the one Air France KLM Martinair launched in Paris in April 2015. Because of a lack of space, one of KLM Cargo’s three warehouses had to be partly demolished.

To accommodate existing cargo processes in about half of the floor space, the building doubles the storage space by scaling up vertically, according to Air France KLM Martinair Cargo.
