AirBridgeCargo Airlines has added a third weekly frequency to its Munich flight.

According to ABC, the flight is operated by a Boeing 747 freighter, which can carry more than 100 tonnes of cargo.

“The decision to introduce an additional flight aims to capture increasing export traffic from Southern Germany, which continues to be a major industrial area in Europe and the surrounding areas as well,” said Andrey Andreev, vice president of Europe at AirBridgeCargo. “Segment-wise, we expect that customers from the automotive sector will particularly benefit from this service and appreciate the wider choice of flights we are ready to offer. So far in 2017, we have witnessed stable demand with more than 1,000 tonnes of automotive and different industrial consignments from and to Munich.”

Apart from export shipments, AirBridgeCargo intends to bolster import volumes to Europe via Munich, with the provision of smooth trucking operations across Europe in cooperation with its trucking partners from the Bavarian capital.

Michael Kerkloh, president and chief executive officer of Munich Airport, said that the airport saw an 8% year-on-year increase in cargo turnover for the first eight months of 2017.

AirBridgeCargo’s European network currently consists of Amsterdam, Basel, Frankfurt, Helsinki, Leipzig, London, Milan, Munich, Oslo, Paris and Zaragoza.
