Silk Way West Airlines has reintroduced a scheduled service to Budapest after a suspension of almost two years.

According to Silk Way West, the flight is operated between the Baku hub and the Hungarian capital every Thursday and Sunday with a Boeing 747 freighter.

“We have recognized an increasing demand for scheduled services to and from Eastern Europe, which we believe came along with the rise of the e-commerce and tech business in this specific region,” said Wolfgang Meier, CEO of Silk Way West Airlines. “In the spirit of the ancient silk road, we want to facilitate this growth by providing regular shipping opportunities to Central Europe as well as into the booming Middle Eastern and Asian markets with the establishment of this connection.”

Budapest is the latest destination to be added to Silk Way’s expanding network in Europe, after Vienna and Kiev.

“We are proud to welcome the new cargo flight of Silk Way West Airlines to Budapest,” said René Droese, director of property and cargo at Budapest Airport. “The new flight creates additional export opportunities for the Hungarian industry, and through the international network of Silk Way West Airlines not only the main cargo hubs of Western Europe become accessible for its partners in industry and logistics, but markets in the Middle East and Asia too.”

More European destinations and two more 747 freighters are expected to be added in due course, according to Silk Way West.
