Cargolux has boosted its offering in Budapest from three to six services a week.
According to the airline, the existing Hong Kong-Budapest-Luxembourg routing will be operated four times a week instead of three. Additionally, a new flight from Zhengzhou will make a stop in the Hungarian capital twice a week before continuing to Luxembourg.
“Budapest has proved over the years to be an important transit hub for cargo in Europe and an increasingly important destination on Cargolux routes,” said Richard Forson, president and chief executive officer of Cargolux. “These enhanced frequencies will enable both parties to explore new markets while cementing Cargolux and Budapest Airport’s positions as frontrunners in the European air freight market.”
Domenico Ceci, executive vice president of sales and marketing at Cargolux, said that there is a growing interest for services to and from Budapest and its greater region.
“Our position as a prime operator to the airport for numerous years and our long-standing relationship with the airport enabled us to seize the opportunity and enhance our connections to this destination,” he said. “We look forward to continue working closely with Budapest Airport to ensure both parties reap the benefits of these additional services.”
Cargolux was the first cargo airline to begin flying to Budapest Airport in 2002 and is now the largest freighter operator.
“The new Zhengzhou cargo route and the frequency increase from Hong Kong will be an important extension of our cargo network,” said René Droese, director of property and cargo at Budapest Airport. “Cargolux is an honorary long-time partner at BUD, their contribution with boosted capacities in our cargo developments is highly appreciated. BUD also greets Cargolux as a tenant in the new BUD Cargo City, which once completed will be an ideal home for air cargo.”
