China's road freight volume expanded in the first two months of the year registering a four percent growth compared to the same period in 2021.

State media citing data from China's Ministry of Transport said more than 5.01 billion tonnes of road cargo were transported in the January-February period and in February alone, China's road freight volume came in at around 2.09 billion tonnes.

The report said Northeast China's Jilin Province led the expansion among 31 provincial-level regions, reporting year-on-year growth of 28.9%,  followed by the northwestern Qinghai Province and northeastern Liaoning Province.

Shipping volumes up

China also saw its shipping volume expand in the same period. In a separate report, Chinese state media reported that water freight volume was up 5.5% in January-February this year.

It said more than 1.25 billion tonnes of waterway cargo were transported in the January-February period and in February alone, China's waterway freight volume stood at 571.24 million tonnes.

South China's Hainan Province led the expansion among 31 provincial-level regions, reporting year-on-year growth of 24.6%, Xinhua said, adding that the province was followed by central China's Hubei Province and north China's Tianjin municipality.
