CHINA'S RAIL CARGO VOLUME UP 5.9% IN FIRST SEVEN MONTHS OF 2022
August 19, 2022

China's rail freight volume continued to expand in the first seven months of the year, with the Ministry of Transport, reporting a 5.9% year-on-year increase as of the end of July.

State media said more than 2.89 billion tonnes of cargo were transported via China's railways during the January to July period — continuing the trend of expansion in the first half of 2022.

In July alone, China's railways handled 414.33 million tonnes of cargo, up 12.3% from the same period last year, Xinhua reported.

The data also showed that during the January to July period, the turnover volume of cargo traffic through China's railways went up 9.2% year on year to top 2.05 trillion tonne-kilometres.

The increasing rail volume comes as both air and sea transport continues to face disruptions.
