EMIRATES LAUNCHES SKYFRESH FOR PERISHABLES

Emirates SkyCargo has launched SkyFresh, a product which preserves the freshness of perishables and fresh consumables during the transport process.

One of the key components of the SkyFresh solution is the new Emirates SkyFresh Ventilated Cool Dolly, which not only maintains a constant temperature, but also uses a ventilation system to filter and cool fresh air from outside and circulate it inside. The aluminium dollies can each carry a weight of up to 16 tonnes.

According to Emirates, SkyFresh features three levels depending on the type of perishable: Emirates SkyFresh, Emirates SkyFresh Breathe and Emirates SkyFresh Active.

The basic level is aimed at fruits and vegetables that are more tolerant of temperature changes and offers protection using SkyCargo’s White Cover blanket.

SkyFresh Breathe is designed for perishables such as fresh cut flowers, cut fruits and vegetables and fresh fish, offering prioritized ground handling using the SkyFresh Ventilated Cool Dolly.

SkyFresh Active provides the highest level of protection with temperature-controlled containers during transportation for perishables that cannot withstand any fluctuations in temperature.

The transport of perishable products is a growing business for Emirates SkyCargo, which carried almost 400,000 tonnes of perishables across its network in 2016, including salmon from Norway, strawberries from California, lobsters from Boston, cherries from Seattle, flowers from Ecuador, cheese and wine from France, meat from Australia and mangoes from the Indian subcontinent.

Emirates SkyCargo operates a freighter fleet of two Boeing 747-400ERFs and 13 777Fs.
